SaVeN Laddus (Satvik Vegan Laddus)
The Story behind SaVeN Laddu: These laddus were invented for our Satvik Vegan Festivals.
I used to get veganised traditional sweets made by outsiders for our annual Satvik Vegan Festivals, until 2012. But, then I felt that getting sweets made by outsiders who make it for the sake of only money, using sugar and oil, didn't go well with our philosophy. Therefore, from 2013 festival onwards, I started making sweets on my own. In the first year, when I put some dryfruits, coconut and hot jaggery syrup in a vessel, mixed it and rolled into laddus, it was an instant hit. Then, I repeated the same every year, improving each time I did it. Over the years, the recipe was perfected with 9 ingredients (Cashew, Almond, Date, Raisin, Coconut, Oat, Sesame, Local Jaggery and Cardamom) and the laddus took a proper shape and weight (20gms). Every participant of the Vegan Festival used to relish it and asking for more.
Later, when I used to travel for vegan activities, I started making these laddus and carrying as a gift to my vegan friends, instead of buying gift from the shops. They not only liked these laddus, but also wanted to have more and were willing to pay for having more. During Corona lockdown in 2020, when I lost all sources of income, the idea of selling these much liked SaVeN laddus came to me. I started making laddus and informed my friends of my intention. Many of them instantly bought them and liked too, which helped spread the word.
The Process: These laddus are made so carefully, in a clean and hygienic way, using the best incredients (Cashew, Almond, Date, Raisin, Oat, Sesame,Coconut, Boiled Sugarcane Juice/local Jaggery and Cardamom) bought from reliable sources, that they are fit to be offered to Gods. They are made using the proper process, without using any short cuts. For example, fresh coconuts are bought from the local growers, cut open, grated manually and dehydrated for the best aroma and durability. I go to sugarcane growers to buy unadulterated local jaggery directly from their facilities. All the laddus are carefully made by me with a lot of love & devotion and offered to consumers with a sense of reverence . Thus, great laddus are made and packed in properly washed boxes. These laddus have, so far, not spoiled in spite of keeping them for over 100 days. With no preservatives, refrigeration, artificial colour or vacuum packing, they last so long that I haven't seen them getting spoiled. SaVeN laddus are Vegan (no animal products), Healthy, Made in Hygienic Conditions, Fair-Trade, Home-Made, Best available Ingredients sourced from reliable sources, Made at Sthitaprajna (a vegan forest/ashram), Made by vegans, Made on a small scale without machines, No Preservatives, No Added Sugar, No Ghee, No Added Oil, No Added Colour, No Cruelty.
